New cinema and contemporary art
With the presence of artists and filmmakers from all-over the world, this exceptional edition will propose an international program gathering 200 works from Spain, France, Germany and 60 other countries, internationally-known artists and filmmakers with young artists and filmmakers presented for the first time in Berlin. With many film premieres, a video program, multimedia concerts, a cycle of debates and panel discussions.
FILM AND VIDEOSCREENINGS (new documentary approaches, new fictions, video, experimental) - notable works include:
> a Carte blanche by Pedro Costa (PT).
> The latest video by Antoni Muntadas (ES) " On Translation: Miedo/Jauf ", premiered in Madrid.
> The latest film by Christelle Lheureux (FR), a film premiered by Manon de Boer (NL), a documentary by Alfredo Jaar (CL).
> A fiction by Adel Abidin (Irak/FI), the latest film by Knut Asdam (NO), the new video of Herman Asselberghs (BE).
> A rare film by Gordon Matta-Clark (USA).
> A video by Hans Op De Beeck (BE).
> Some focuses on several artists and a selection of rare films and videos coming from Colombia, Taiwan, and Argentina.
Among the programmed artists, we could also mention: Emmanuelle Antille (CH), Olivo Barbieri (IT), François Bucher (CO), Steven Cohen (Afrique du Sud), Carles Congost (ES), Jon Mikel Euba (ES), Ken Jacobs (USA), Ane Lan (NO), Francis Naranjo (ES), Yves Netzhammer (CH), Norbert Pfaffenbichler (AT), Carlos Pazos (ES), Nicolas Provost (BE), Volker Schreiner (DE), Lawrence Weiner (USA).
Each screening offers a journey built around a subject, a transverse theme related to different audiovisual forms and practices.
VIDEOSCREENING IN LOOPED. From the 2nd to the 6th of July, from 4 to 8pm. Avec notamment: Kader Attia (FR), Tony Cokes (USA), Daniel Crooks (AU), Charly Nijensohn (AR), Joan Leandre (ES), François Bucher (C0), Johanna Domke (DE), Peter Downsbrough (USA).
FORUM. From the 2nd to the 4th of July, from 2pm. Each day, a professional from France or Germany will present his or her work within a structure or institution, and will transmit practical information and ideas on questions linked to production and distribution.
PANEL DISCUSSION. Saturday, July 5 & Sunday, July 6, from 2pm. The Rencontres Internationales invites curators, museum directors and art critics from European in the fields of contemporary cinema, video and new media. These debates aim to develop a reflection on the concerns and tracks explored in each country in order to debrief this creation and accompany it, from a critical point of view as well as from the point of view of audiences and artists themselves..
This year in Berlin, the panel discussions will focuse on the theme: Fluctuating boundaries between visual arts and cinema. On the stakes, questions, and problems connected to programming using new audiovisual forms, between the domains of contemporary art and cinema.
