About reSkin
ANAT’s annual Media Labs and Summer Schools have traditionally focused on introducing the skills associated with emerging technological-based forms and practices to a wide sector of Australian media arts practitioners, writers and curators. Building upon the success of these initiatives, including the 2005 Create_Space Lab, reSkin will be an intense three-week period that will focus on wearable technology, embracing the skill-based practices of object and fashion design.
reSkin will place four international and national facilitators with twenty participants including jewellers, textile artists, fashion designers and media artists. Together they will research, develop and rapid prototype sensor, time based and reactive clothing, jewellery, shoes, bags and personal environmental and device designs – anything wearable and technologically integrated.
Project Manager
ANAT is pleased to announce Alexandra Gillespie has been appointed as Project Manager for reSkin. Alexandra brings valuable experience to the position having previously worked as an artist, project manager, and university educator in the field of media and time-based arts since 1999. Her work has exhibited nationally and internationally, and a number of these projects have incorporated interactive elements (custom programming, sensor triggers and controllers) into ready made and designed objects. She believes reSkin will be an exciting opportunity for Australian artists and designers to explore materials and processes towards creating wearable computing prototypes.
Outcomes
reSkin will end with a one-day forum of critical dialogue looking at Wearable Futures at the National Museum of Australia, and streamed on the net for international and national audiences. ANAT is currently negotiating further national showcase opportunities for the innovative and exciting outcomes that will result from reSkin.
Registration
Further information about additional professional development opportunities associated with reSkin and how to register will be available on the ANAT website in the coming months.
